Chinese Ref: TS0009 The Chinese claim to have invented chess some 2000 years ago during the Hansing campaign. Here is a fine example of a beatifullly carved 19th century Chinese chess set. The original set was carved in Indian ivory with each well proportioned, perfectly finished piece mounted upon an octogonal base, figure and base carved from a single piece of ivory throughout. Louis XIV Ref: TS0016 A very fine chess set based on Louis XIV. The Sun King, and his Queen are carved in the Baroque Style of the period. The King, Queen, Bishop and Pawn are unusual in so far as they are all seated on matching pinths. the knight is a horse's head rising from its pinth and the Rook a matching castellated tower with drape.
